Longtime Board member Tookie Mullen submitted his resignation, creating a vacancy for Place 1. Jarrell ISD Board President Crystal Phalen stated today that the Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Aaron“Tookie” Mullen. Mullen served in Place 1 on the Board of Trustees. He was first elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2012, 2015 and 2018.

“Today I accept the resignation of Tookie Mullen, a long time Jarrell ISD supporter, and trustee,” Phalen said. “Mr. Mullen has been involved in the Jarrell community for many years, and his service to the school and community does not go unnoticed. The Board would like to wish Mr. Mullen the best as we understand that life’s circumstances make this the right time for him to focus on his health.”

In his resignation letter, Mullen cited his health as his primary reason for stepping down of the Board of Trustees.

“I have enjoyed many years working for the students, staff, and community, but now, I need to take time to care for myself,” Mullen said.

Mullen’s resignation creates a vacancy on the Board. The Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees has opted to appoint a volunteer to serve in Place 1.

The district is seeking individuals who are willing to serve the district in this capacity and live within District 1, which includes much of “old town Jarrell” and a narrow piece of the Sonterra subdivision.

If you are interested in serving on the Board, contact Jarrell ISD Superintendent Dr. Bill Chapman at 512-746-2426 or email at A subcommittee of current Board members will interview interested individuals and bring one finalist to the Board for approval at a future meeting.
